FLAC Format: Need Your Opinion
New Year.
I have a question for you. It would be most appreciated if I could have your feedback. You can either post it here or email it to info@comecloser.com.
Would you purchase/download music in FLAC format?
For the uninitiated, it’s a format that compresses music but in lossless quality. The files are larger than an mp3, but the sound quality is superior. I ask you about this because I am thinking about adding this format when `Torched Laughter’ comes out. The format would be exclusively available at www.christopher.mu and ikonowerk.com.
Pros: Sound quality is great. The file will be an almost direct representation of the master recording. The files are still considerably smaller than a wav file.
Cons: I don’t believe there is a popular player for this format. But as a second Pro: You can convert it to mp3, mp4, or wav for CD with ease.
Let me know.
ETA: Not stopping the availability of mp3’s. Just considering adding this additional format.

Dear Christopher, i would definitely buy/download FLAC music files as the quality is much better than lossy compressions such as mp3. I’m a Mac user, so i generally use xACT to decode FLAC to AIFF format in order to make a hard copy of the music, or for use in iTunes. I was really surprised Radiohead didn’t offer FLAC as an option for their “pay what you like” album download. Looking forward to hearing more of your wonderful works x
Frazer dear, thanks for the input.
Definitely. The clock is ticking on CD’s; files are the future. FLAC is the present beginning of the future.
Totally agree. But I do lament the demise of physical content. A lot of us grew up with the ritual of being totally engrossed in the `whole package.’
